Hello!  It's hard to believe that October is just around the corner.  It seems like we started school just last week.  We are busy with lots of fun and exciting things.  Here are some reminders about what's going on:
  • School pictures went out last week.  If you would like to purchase them, please send money this week.  If you do not want to purchase the pictures, please send them back.  You cannot keep the pictures if you do not buy them.
  • Our aquarium field trip is next Thursday!  We are going to have so much fun!  We will be sending home a letter later this week with more information about what to bring with you.
  • Conferences are in full swing.  Please check to see when your assigned time is.  Let me know if something comes up, and we can reschedule.  If you missed your conference time, please contact me so we can set up a new time.

Weekly Newsletter for 9/19

Hello, everyone!  I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather.  We are doing lots of fun things in class this week.  Below are a few of them, and also some reminders.
  • We are in a review week in reading, so the spelling words may look familiar to you.  Even though you child has already tested on them, it's still a good idea to study.  That way the words will be fresh on their minds.
  • We are taking place value to another level in math.  We are learning to group different numbers together.  Your child may need extra help with this, so please take a look at their homework with them.
  • We are finishing the last two weeks studying oceans.  We have had a blast learning what lives beneath the sea.
  • Please make sure you are signing your child's behavior log.  It is important that you see how your child is doing following class instructions and rules.
  • We have started a new reading program:  The Iron Bowl Challenge!  Our class goal is to read 2,000 books by the Iron Bowl.  Please read with your child every night to help us reach our goal.

Weekly Newsletter for September 12

Hello, all!  I hope you have enjoyed the beautiful weekend!  I know we sent home lots of papers on Thursday and Friday, so here is a recap of the information.
  • You should have received a green progress report with a bright red note stapled to it.  Please review the progress report, sign it and return it to school.  I would like to conference with every family this month, so please check on the red sheet and let me know if that day will work for you.
  • We are going to the aquarium on October 6th!  I am so excited about this trip.  It will be an invaluable experience for your student.  The money for the trip needs to be in by September 16th.  I would love to see our whole class go on this field trip!
  • PTO is Monday night at 6:30.  Our class will be singing, so please make plans to be there.  They have been working very hard, and I cannot wait for them to perform! (Just a reminder, PTO is held at the Bobby Miller Center next to our school.)
  • Please remember to read with your child every night and record it in his or her reading log.  Developing your child's reading ability will improve his or her performance in all other subjects.    Even listening to them read aloud while you cook dinner or fold clothes is a great help to them.  Please continue to make it a priority.
Thank you for all of your support in your child's education.  Every time you help them with homework, ask them what they learned in school, or read a book with them, you are instilling in them the importance of a good education.  But most importantly, you are showing them that you care! :)

Good afternoon!  I hope all of you are having a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  Here are some of the things we'll be doing this week, and also a few reminders.
  • We are still having our spelling test on the words for Week Three on Thursday.  We will work on them in the room, but please be sure to practice them with your child this week.  The words are listed on the spelling words sheet that was sent home a couple of weeks ago.  The students will write them in their planners on Tuesday.
  • We are continuing with place value and expanded notation this week in math.
  • Our oceans unit continues this week with the study of fish.  Our centers will hold a special surprise, so be sure to ask your child about it! : )
  • The Innisbrook fundraiser ends on Tuesday, so be sure to bring in any orders on then.
  • School pictures are this Wednesday, September 7th.  Be sure to wear your best smile!
